CATHERINE HOWELL

Catherine Howell paints people she finds charismatic and interesting, often seen by many as those who live on the edge of society. Her work is about nature of humanity, which she is still exploring for herself.

In 2008 she was awarded the Ferdynand Zweig Arts Travel Scholarship. Her chosen destination was Havana Cuba. The artist spent three months delivering art workshops, living and socialising with the people of Cuba. Santeria & Havana is the work in response to the artists stay in Havana.

So Lovely Catherine invited me over for a private viewing a couple of weeks ago, it was quite an intimate affair, with free mojitos and lots of salsa music I was not complaining!! Her work is amazing. Most defiantly a talented soul, Catherine captures the moment. I could almost feel the emotion whether it is joyful or heart-rending I could see that these people had been through a lot. Catherine paints the underdog (those that are not subservient to the system) with such beauty it’s beautiful.

Obviously I took a few snaps it’s a given..Meet Catherine the lady behind it all :)
